COSTUME CONTESTS!

Marble City Comicon Costume Contest Rundown



SATURDAY:

Main costume contest focusing primarily on craftsmanship of the costume. There will be a prejudging session for all participants. Judges will be looking at the costume itself, the design, construction and skills used in building the costume. Age 13+. Preregistration is REQUIRED, more info below.


BEST IN SHOW: This prize can go to anyone in any category. This will be the costume that MOST IMPRESSES the judges.
$500 CASH PRIZE


Contestants will be divided into three skill level categories:

Novice: For participants new to costuming who may have competed, but have not taken first at a costume contest before. Costumes are usually premade or commissions pieces that have been altered to be specific to the costume.

  • Best in Class: $100 CASH
  • Runner-up: Con cash + Prize pack


Intermediate: For participants who have been involved in costuming for some time or who have won at costume contests in the past. Costumes are at least half made by hand (sewn, foamwork, leatherwork, etc.) and contestants should be able to explain the skills used in the costume construction.

  • Best in Class: $100 CASH
  • Runner-up: Con cash + Prize pack


Masters: For participants who have been in costuming for multiple years, and have invested significant time and money into their costume. Costume is expected to be mostly made by the costumer, and they should be able to thoroughly explain the skills and techniques utilized for the costume. Judges will be up close and personal and every piece of the costume will be thoroughly scrutinized.

  • Best in Class: $200 CASH
  • Runner-up: Con cash + Prize pack

Additional Prizes:

Celebrity Judge's Choice: Our guest celebrity judge will pick their favorite costume.

  • Prize to be announced (but it will be awesome!)


Participants can only win one prize, so the Best in Show is not eligible for Best in their Class.


Preregistration for the Saturday Costume Contest is REQUIRED. Email panels@marblecitycomicon.com with the following information:

  • Costume Contest as the subject
  • Your name
  • The costume character's name
  • What it is from
  • A reference picture from the original material
  • A picture of the costume even if it's in progress
  • If you have won costume contests before, and which one(s)


Suggested additions:

  • In progress pictures
  • Notes on construction
  • Anything else the judges should know

SUNDAY:


Iron Cosplay: Iron Chef, the cosplay version! Teams compete to create a specific genre of costume using supplied (random) materials and and secret "ingredient". All materials will be provided.
4 teams consisting of 5 people, one model and four crafters

Preregistration is REQUIRED as this event will fill up quickly. Email panels@marblecitycomicon.com  to register with subject "Iron Cosplay". You may enter alone or in small groups (we will place you on a team), or as a full team. Groups will be filled on a first come, first serve basis and you will be emailed back to know if you have made a team.


Kids Costume Contest: for ages 12 and under, kids can show off their costuming skills and get a taste of stardom walking across the stage. The child must be to one who put together the costume, if an adult made most of the costume, please enter the main contest on Saturday with the child as the costume model.

  • Con cash + Prize pack

Preregistration is not required for the Kids contests, but you can email panels@marblecitycomicon.com with the subject "Kids contest" with the child's name, the character name, what it is from, and the child's age prior to the show. Otherwise, registration can be done both days of Marble City.


Anime Costume Contest: If you have an anime costume, we want you here for this contest! Less emphasis will be placed on construction than the main contest, this is more about representation and presentation of the character.  (Contestants are eligible to enter both the main and anime contests unless a Best in Class/Show prize is awarded for that costume)

Preregistration is not required for the Anime contests, but you can email panels@marblecitycomicon.com with the subject "Anime contest" with your name, character name, and what it is from prior to the show. Otherwise, registration can be done both days of Marble City.
